This is what I needed to track down a broken wire. I could hook it to the wire at the bqck of the truck and see what is going on from the front by myself

by:

Amazing how quick y’all shipped it out

by:

The tool is terrific and the service was outstanding. It arrived 2 days before predicted.

by:

I bought this prob/circuit tester in order to make some minor electrical repairs to our Scamp 13. I carry it along on all our trips. It has been tremendously helpful isolating shorts that result from vibration and wear and tear. Furthermore, the tutorial videos here on etrailer have been equally helpful.

Reliable and useful as ever.

by:

Easy installation.
I sold the trailer
shortly after installing this item.
It worked well for the amount of time that I owned the trailer.

by:

Haven't needed this tool yet but good to have it in my 12 volt electrical kit.

by:

Cheap but does the job.

by:

I had a tester like this years ago and I broke the end off.
I really liked the tester as you can hook it over a wire and probe it to see
if you have voltage.
Been looking for one for a long time.
You can find cheap junk ones but this one is just like the good one I had years ago.
Glad I found it and is is very well built.
Should last me a long time.
Was shipped fast also.
Will try and not break this one.
Thanks e trailer.

by:

Looks to be well constructed & easy to use. Frees up your hands for other tasks, & has many other circuit tracing applications as well.

  • How To Know If Your 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe Has A Factory Tow Package
I recommend tracing the wiring from the 4-pole connector back to see if it plugs into a connector or if it's hardwired to your tail lights before purchasing anything. The wire harness would get all the signals right at the tail lights if it was hardwired in, but if it has a connector that plugs into a factory connector in the vehicle then you have the tow package and can just use the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package # C68JR instead of having to splice in the...

  • No Trailer Connection on Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller 90195 on a 2000 Toyota Tundra
I would start by inspecting the connector on your trailer and the vehicle to make sure there is not corrosion in the connector which could be causing a bad or weak connection. If there is corrosion in the trailer side connector, you would need to replace it with 7-way Connector, part # A7WCB. For the replacement vehicle side connector, you would need Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole, part # 30717. For future use, I would recommend using Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors, part # 11755,...

  • Troubleshooting a Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller that Reads Trailer Not Connected
If you sever the blue wire leaving the P3 controller part # 90195 leaving enough room to reconnect it and test the end of the wire leaving the controller with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 you should see voltage when you slide the manual override lever. If not, then the brake controller is bad. If you see voltage there instead then the problem is somewhere on the brake output circuit of your vehicle or trailer. Corrosion on the trailer connector typically causes this problem. If...

  • Recommended Hitch and Wiring Harness for a 2026 Toyota Crown Signia
Hey Michael. I do not have a wiring diagram for a 2026 Crown Signia so I can not identify those wires. Your SUV does indeed have PWM system for the LED lights. To install the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter item # C59236, you'll need to use a circuit tester like item # PTW2993 to identify the functions of the wires. I attached a wiring diagram below that shows the individual functions of the wiring harness. Additionally, the Curt Trailer Hitch item # C35MJ you were looking at, has...

  • Troubleshooting No Power On Curt 4-Way Wiring Harness
In order to narrow this down I would start by checking the vehicle side of the connector. Check and see if there is power using a circuit tester like the # PTW2993. If you find that there is power then you can rule out anything on the vehicle side and you need to be checking the # C56332 . If you don't have power then it is a problem with the vehicle. Since you already checked your fuses it is probably a short in the wiring. If you are unable to locate it you will probably have to take...

  • Should Blue Wire From Brake Controller Have Constant Power
The blue wire coming from the back of your Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller # 39510 is for brake output to the 7-Way connector. This wire should only have power with the brake pedal depressed or the manual override activated on the brake controller. If you are getting constant power on this blue wire this may be an indication that the controller is bad but there is an easy way to test this. You will want to first sever the blue wire several inches from the back of the controller. Then...

  • How to Wire Reverse Lock Out Solenoid on Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuating Coupler
I don't have a wiring diagram, but I'd be happy to explain it for you. In order for the reverse solenoid on a Hydraulic Brake Coupler like # DM62VR to function, one of the two wires leading from it needs to be connected to the wire from the center pin of the trailer connector, which is typically the yellow or purple wire (use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to confirm). The remaining wire is grounded to the trailer frame. On the vehicle side, you'll need to make sure that the center...

  • Brake Controller Turning On Brake Lights When Car is off and Draining Car Battery
It sounds like the unit was wired incorrectly. The white wire is a ground wire and should be connected to a suitable ground connection on the vehicle. The blue wire is the output wire that sends power to the trailer brakes when they need to be activated. The red wire should be connected to a stop light circuit. Typically, this is connected to one of the brake light switch wires at the top of your vehicle brake pedal. The black wire should be connected directly to the vehicle battery for...

  • Troubleshooting a Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller With Trailer Brakes That are not Showing Power
I am not entirely sure what process you took so I'll give you some other things to try, or maybe a different way to test the Prodigy P3 # 90195. First, sever the blue wire a couple inches from the back of your controller. Then use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 to test the end of the blue wire coming out of the controller. It should only have power when you apply the manual override; if it shows power at idle then there is an issue with the controller, and it will need to be replaced. You...

  • Troubleshooting Curt Echo Brake Controller that Only Works with Manual Override Lever
Most likely you have some dirt or corrosion built up on the pins of the trailer connector on your vehicle. What you described is how a brake controller acts when it is not seeing a brake light signal to tell it to activate. Try cleaning the pins of the 7-way and let me know if that changes anything. Also make sure that all of the circuits of the 7-way are currently active. You can do this with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 testing each pin as you apply all of the different turn signal...

  • How To Tell If You Have A Faulty Brake Controller
The blue wire coming from the brake controller to the trailer brakes is the brake power output wire used to tell the trailer to apply the brakes once given the response from the brake controller. Therefore, you should not have a constant charge to the blue wire, except when the brakes are applied or the manual override is engaged on a proportional brake controller. To test this you will want to sever the blue wire about 6" back from the brake controller then apply the manual brake slide...

  • Troubleshooting Only One Side of Trailer Brakes Locking Up
Yes, when the electric signal is sent from the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 to the trailer's brakes, it should cause both sides to lock up. Since only one side is locking up, it could indicate that one brake assembly needs to be manually adjusted. I attached a video that shows how to do this process. If that doesn't get it to respond then there is possibly an issue with the wiring going into the brake assembly which you can test using a circuit tester like # PTW2993....

  • How To Find Cold Side Of Stop Light Switch On Vehicle For Brake Controller Installation
Normally you can find the brake light switch under the dashboard at the top of the brake pedal. There could be a number of wires attached to the switch so you can use a tester like part # PTW2993 to test the wires. Since the auto manufacturers can use different color wires it is always best to use a tester and check the wires for function and not color. You would need to find the wire that only shows power when the brake pedal is pressed. That would be the wire that gets attached to the...

  • Brake Controller Has Constant 12V Power But Trailer Brakes Do Not Engage
First I suggest you double check your wiring from the controller. Typical brake controller wiring is: Red wire goes to the brake switch cold terminal, which gets power only when the pedal is pressed; Blue wire connects to the trailer brake circuit; White wire is ground; Black wire connects to the 12V power source. Please note that we do offer vehicle-specific wiring harnesses that plug into the OEM socket under your dash and provide bare wires on the other end to wire directly to your controller....

I'd check the ground for the tail light converter # C56196 as well as the ground for the lights. Are the lights on the trailer LED? If so you'll need to install resistors # TK32VR for each circuit for this converter to be compatible. From there you can doublecheck that you have the wires connected to the appropriate tail light wiring on the towing vehicle to ensure the...

This can be as basic as needing to clean your connections with a little sandpaper or steel wool, a bad ground connection due to rust or debris on your trailer, or as big as a short in that wire.
